Small Business Updates

Updated: Apr 27

I receive updates from the Louisiana Secretary of State (LSOS) regarding my small business (Out of the Office – Notary Public Services, L.L.C. – a mobile notary service). I recently received the following email from the LSOS:

“The Small Business Protection Act, Act 204 of the 2019 Regular Louisiana Legislative Session, requires the secretary of state to post information about proposed state rules that may affect small businesses on its website and to notify interested parties when the rule information is posted.

To subscribe to receive notifications please use our registration form.

In furtherance of the intent of the Small Business Protection Act, the Secretary of State's Office has decided to post the Office of State Register’s (OSR) public comment email address portal to assist interested parties in submitting a comment about an agency’s proposed or existing rule that may affect their business or industry.

The comment should identify the rule’s Title, Part, and Section of the Louisiana Administrative Code and the reasons and/or data why the rule may be (1) contrary to law, (2) outdated, (3) unnecessary, (4) overly complex, or (5) too burdensome.

Please email any comments to a proposed or existing rule to the Office of State Register’s email portal at laccomments@la.gov

The agency must provide a written response within 90 days or initiate the rulemaking process to address the comment. The Secretary of State’s Office believes it is important for small businesses to be aware of the proposed rules that may affect their industry and remain civically engaged to ensure agencies are aware of possible concerns.”

Those of you who know me, know how excited I am for this extra service that the LSOS is providing. My passion for civic responsibility goes beyond simple community service. I feel the general population does not understand most of these civil responsibilities. The fact that the LSOS is promulgating this information is an asset for our state. Please check out our wonderful state’s website, SOS.LA.GOV, for a wealth of information about Elections & Voting, Business Services, Notary & Certifications, Historical Resources, and information about the Secretary of State.

www.legis.la.gov is another valuable resource for the residents of Louisiana. This site provides information about Louisiana State Legislature. You can find out who your legislators are, what boards and commissions they serve on, research laws, bills, and a plethora of other information. I hope everyone will take some time to review these resources, become involved, support our officials, encourage each other to become more familiar with what makes Louisiana great!
